And just like that, I am done with my final project and my first semester!! I haven’t had the chance to sit down and give a quick life update but basically over the summer I made the decision to go back to school and work on my fashion technology degree. The degree is fully focused on patternmaking which is a bit different from my previous degree I completed years ago. I’m also taking some additional classes just to gain more knowledge and keep up-to-date on the industry since I’ll be making a couple of changes in my business the next couple of months. The only downside to working on completing this degree this time around is the time. I’m a bit limited in time and how many classes I can take each semester because of the location of the college and most importantly because of work. Driving to downtown L.A. back and forth can get very tiring but I was able to make this upcoming spring semester schedule work the best I could. Also, I’m normally not that busy in the spring time like I am in the fall so I thought I would take advantage of that and try to be a full time student next semester. I only took one class this fall because of work but this upcoming summer I definitely need to prep costumes so I can take more classes in the fall. So yup, that’s my little life update. As for winter session, I could have take one class but I thought I would spend the rest of December and the whole month of January creating and filming content for my digital shop. So please stay tune for some fun designs! See you on the next post!

Come along as I work on my second final project for my pattern making and design 1 class. We had to manipulate the dart on the front bodice 9 times and create a 3D model of them and display them on a board and this is how mine turned out! Did I create more work for myself by retracing and creating an embroidery file out of them? Yes, I did haha but it was fun creating my own textiles with my embroidery machine that it gave me some ideas for future designs/projects!
Let's continue working on my final project! Now that I have my basic blocks in kids 3T, I can finally start making changes to create the dress I sketched out. After sewing the sample I decided to make a quick design change on the peplum. I'm going to use the circle skirt and shorten it to create a 2nd layer instead. I think the first peplum didn't have the volume/flare I wanted it to have. I would fix the issue if I had more time but we only have one more class left before we need to present the project so for now we are just changing the design. What's left to do is to quickly touch up the pattern and make sure everything is labeled correctly and then I can start cutting the pattern on the nicer fabric! So let go fabric shopping!
I'm currently taking Pattern making and design Level 1 this fall semester and I have three main final projects for this class so I thought I would bring you along as I work on them. The first project is creating a garment based on what we learned this semester. Most of the basic blocks we've been making have been in women's sizing but I did ask my professor if it was possible to make it in kids instead so I have to recreate what we've been doing in class into a kids 3T and here's how everything turned out!
I thought I would do a what’s in my school bag video and show you how I organize and carry all of my sewing/pattern making tools to class!

Embroidery Appliqué File now up on the shop https://yeseniadesignsshop.com/ I have so many things planned for 2023 but first let me quickly recap 2022. I started the year with going back to school and taking a screen printing and embroidery class. Once I was done with those classes; I started doing my research on what embroidery machine I should get and even visited my first Expo. I did vlog my whole journey but for some reason Youtube is being weird and not allowing YT Shorts to be posted or shared so if you would like to watch that content go directly to my Youtube channel here or my Instagram page here. I thought there was something wrong with my blog but I was able to figure out that those videos sadly won't be posted on here expect longer videos are the only ones allowed to be shared. Anyways, I was of course super busy with my shop and Halloween orders while getting comfortable using my embroidery machine. I ended the year with finally buying an embroidery software. And here we are 2023, I plan on teaching myself how to use Embrilliance and digitizing my own artwork. I tried to see if a school offered a class but I couldn't find anything so I'm on my own on this but thankfully there's some awesome tutorials on Youtube using that software. I also just started a 4 week course for a 3D pattern class I'm taking this month; so this year is definitely a year full of learning. So if you would like to follow along again, checkout my other social media accounts for updates but overall excited to learn new things! -Yesenia
